Accra Business Forum (ABF)

10 IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT ACCRA BUSINESS FORUM (ABF)

IT IS A CONTINENTAL EVENT
Accra Business Forum (ABF) is a quarterly business conference held in Accra, Ghana, for corporate executives, entrepreneurs, government officials, etc, drawn from the 54 countries of Africa. ABF is also open to African participants in the diaspora. This continental event is held in February, May, August and November every year. The inaugural edition is slated for November 8-10, 2023.

WHO IS BEHIND ABF
ABF is owned and organized by Alford Conferences Limited. REVENUE magazine is the official publication of the event. We promote ABF alongside three other events: Nigerian States IGR Awards, EMEA Banking Awards, and World Digital Exhibition (WORLDEX). IGR stands for internally generated revenue. EMEA stands for Europe, Middle East and Africa. We have picked the following organizations as the major continental development partners (CDPs) for ABF: Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), Accra, Ghana; African Development Bank (AfDB), Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire; African Export Import Bank (Afreximbank), Cairo, Egypt, and Pan-African Payment and Settlement System (PAPSS), Cairo, Egypt. PAPSS is a subsidiary of Afreximbank. We look forward to their support, co-sponsorship, and involvement in this high-profile continental event.

THE UNIQUE SELLING POINT OF ABF
There are many business events addressing various sectors of the African economy, held in most countries of the continent, but ABF is different. Its unique selling point is that it is conceived and designed to be the place for solutions, not mere talk. ABF is positioned as The Solution Ground for Africa’s Economy, and it is mainly private sector-driven.

THE OBJECTIVE OF ABF
The objective of the quarterly ABF is in line with the mandate of Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), the agency established by the African Union (AU) to spearhead continental economic integration. ABF contributes to this mission by regularly bringing African businesses to close ranks amongst themselves, and to continuously explore ways to sell more and buy more from themselves. We do this every quarter in Accra, Ghana, where the AfCFTA Secretariat is located.

BY THE WAY, WHY ACCRA?
We have chosen to name the event after ACCRA primarily to give a strong character to its overall branding. We could also have named it after any of the other 11 cities listed below. When we conceived this new event product in January 2023, the editorial team of REVENUE magazine, along with its Project Advisory Board (PAB) members, had considered the following 12 African cities as options for its permanent host city (PHC): Abidjan, Abuja, Accra, Addis Ababa, Cairo, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Kigali, Kinshasa, Lagos, Nairobi and Pretoria.

SO WHY DID YOU SETTLE FOR ACCRA?
In picking the PHC (permanent host city) for the quarterly ABF, our preference was for an English-speaking African country because English is the biggest and most influential official business language in our continent, and it is the premier language of global trade and diplomacy. Because of its shining economic success stories on many fronts, its strong and growing global reputation as an event host, and its excellent MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) credentials, we had initially preferred Kigali, Rwanda, to host this quarterly event. But with Accra being the continental headquarters of Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), we ended up settling for this West African city. The goal of ABF is closely aligned with the mandate given by the African Union (AU) to AfCFTA to speed up a sustainable integration of the 54 economies of the continent.

REGISTRATION FEE
The registration fee for the quarterly ABF is N96,400 per person (or its equivalent in any other local African currency, paid via PAPSS).

SPONSORSHIP FEES
The major sponsorship categories for each quarterly event include platinum (N36,284,000), gold (N28,070,450), silver (N16,125,600) and Standard (N4,789,200). Other sponsorship categories and items are contained in the participation brochure.

PAN-AFRICAN EXCELLENCE AWARDS
The Pan-African Excellence Awards will be presented at each quarterly edition of ABF to honour and celebrate excellence, leadership and achievement in the following categories: national ministries and agencies (50 recipients), state governments (50 recipients), banks (5 recipients), and other corporate organizations (25 recipients).

AFTER EACH EVENT, WHAT NEXT?
ABF Solution Centre, expected to be located in Accra, Ghana, is in the offing. The centre, which we plan to officially unveil in due course, will be the research and implementation arm of ABF. The centre is temporarily operated at Alford Conferences Limited in Abuja, Nigeria.
