2nd Africa Food Surplus Summit 2026

The 2nd Africa Food Surplus Summit 2026 is slated for Dutse, Jigawa State, Nigeria. Participants at the event are expected from the five regions of the continent: Central Africa, East Africa, North Africa, Southern Africa and West Africa.

The annual Africa Food Surplus Summit (formerly called Nigeria Food Surplus Summit) was established in August 2024 by Alford Conferences Limited. The 2nd Africa Food Surplus Summit is slated for April 22-24, 2026 in Dutse, Jigawa State, Nigeria. The continental agribusiness program seeks to help Africa to successfully feed itself and have a large surplus for export. For decades, up till this present moment, the responsibility of feeding this continent of over 1.5 billion people has rested largely on the shoulders of its smallholder farmers. The summit complements this effort through its advocacy in five core areas:

  • Design and implement practical solutions to post harvest logistics in support of smallholder farmers in Africa
  • Help a large pool of existing smallholder farmers to gradually scale from subsistence farming to commercial farming in a sustainable way in Africa. Run a deliberate and sustainable campaign, alongside this, to bring the continent’s youth to embrace agribusiness on a far more extensive scale than ever before
  • Give more attention to food processing at the small, medium and large-scale levels across Africa
  • Provide substantial and sustainable new investment to drive agro-mechanization in Africa
  • Push for a substantial increase in commercial bank lending to agriculture throughout the continent

The summit draws inspiration from the Netherlands, one of the most successful countries in the world in agriculture today and one of the largest global agricultural exporters today. Held as part of this annual continental agribusiness event are the monthly Arewa Agro Lending Seminar (AALS) held in Dutse, Jigawa State, and the quarterly media briefing on Commercial Bank Lending to the Nigerian Agricultural Industry held in Abuja, FCT.

We look forward to engaging key Africa development partners for the summit: African Development Bank (AfDB), African Export Import Bank (Afreximbank), African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), and Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) where Africa leads with 27 out of a total of 57 member countries of the global Islamic development finance institution.

A major highpoint of the summit in 2026 would be the presentation of the Africa Agribusiness Champion Awards to recognize, honour and celebrate the following individuals and organizations in the following five categories:

  1. DAY 1: African President of the Year in Agro-Mechanization Award: 1 Recipient
  2. DAY 1: Country Supporter of African Agriculture Awards: 10 Recipients
